Meet Our Teachers
Carolyn Gordon

“I teach classical Pilates because it works. I’ve seen it transform my own body, as well as my clients. I’ve seen time and time again people finally being able to return to activities they love, that they could not do prior to Pilates, because of chronic pain or injury.”

She attended The Fingerlakes School of Massage in 2004, completing their 1000-hour program, and has been a licensed and practicing massage therapist since then. She holds massage licenses in both New York and North Carolina.
She completed her Pilates training of over 1,000 hours in 2011, certifying with Dorothee Vandewalle- a world-renowned, second generation Pilates teacher trainer.
Carolyn has attended many continuing education workshops with teachers such as: Mari Winsor, Mejo Wiggins, Chris Robinson, Brooke Siler, Peter Fiasca, Kathi Ross-Nash, Dorothee Vandewalle, Sonje Mejo, Blossom Leilani Crawford, Clare Dunphy Hemani, and Sandy Shimoda.

I am a certified classically trained Pilates instructor and began teaching in New York City in 1998. I studied with Romana Kryzanowska, Bob Liekens, Phoebe Higgins and Peter Roel. During my career in New York, I have worked with numerous actors and dancers of all ages. I have taught teacher training courses including “Pilates for Runners” and “The Use of Touch and Stretching in Pilates Workouts”.
I have been a lifelong marathoner, having completed my first marathon at the age of 17 in 1978. A series of injuries in my early 30’s led me to Pilates. After a chiropractor suggested that I hang up my running shoes for good, Isought out an alternative. Pilates was the answer. After six months of regular workouts, I was back on the running trials and has since completed more than 13 marathons including 7 New York City Marathons and 1 Boston Marathon. For 8 years I coached the NYC Metropolitan area’s largest running team, the New York Flyers.
I studied Shiatsu at the Ohashi Institute in NYC. In 2010 my wife, Monika Gross, and I and daughter, Boheme, moved to Asheville. I have taught in my own studio, Form, Fitness & Function, and at several studios in Asheville.
